Immunizations

State law stipulates that the medical records of children on file at school show the required immunizations have been completed by the 20th day of the school year. That day is September 5, 2018. Information regarding immunization requirements for 2018-2019 can be found on our website under support services on the district tab.

Parents of children whose immunizations are not up to date should contact their health care provider of the Boone County Health Department to schedule an appointment for the necessary immunizations. Some pharmacies also carry the necessary vaccines.

Children who do not have up-to-date vaccination records by September 5, 2018, will not be allowed to return to school until the proper immunization information is on file. If parents object to immunizations, a written objection must be on file in the school office by that date. This must be updated yearly. Students who have appointments with their health care provider after September 5, 2018, must present proof of the scheduled appointment in order to remain in school. Please contact the health clinic at your school with any questions or concerns.

Bring Your Own Device

A 1:1 device is a required element for students in grades 5-12. During registration, parents indicate whether their student will rent at a cost of $132.50 or select Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

If BYOD, the following are recommendations for devices at the high school and middle schools:

1. Device (laptop or Chromebook) must include keyboard

2. Operating System: Windows 7 or later (rental laptops are on Windows 10), Mac 10.11 or later, Chrome OS 65, Linux OS not recommended

3. USB Ports (at least one)

4. Eight GB of RAM recommended (4 GB minimum)

5. Not a preferred device: iPad or tablet

6. A protective case is recommended.

7. Although ZCS does not recommend a brand of laptop, if you have a question about a device you are considering, please e-mail us at zcstech@zcs.k12.in.us.

8. If a problem occurs with the device at home or at school, a loaner from ZCS is available.

Transportation Notes

Transportation Information

Director of Transportation: Amy Eaton

Direct Office Line: 317-873-1237 x11802

The 2018-2019 school year is coming up fast. We are working hard to get all bus route information to parents as soon as possible. Please note bus route information is NOT available at this time.

NEW for 2018: Bus route information will be available through PowerSchool and additionally, the transportation department will be sending out specific bus route information for your student(s) in an e-mail via school messenger.

We strongly encourage use of this safe and valuable service.

The health and safety of ZCS students is our highest priority. ZCS employs dedicated, highly trained and specially licensed professional bus drivers who are familiar with our students and community. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), school buses are seven times safer than traveling by car or truck. As of this writing, we provide 52 elementary, 54 middle school, and 16 high school daily bus routes in the morning and afternoon and more than 1,800 educational/sporting event field trips yearly. Our professional transportation department has a flawless, multi-year bus inspection record with the Indiana State Police. Utilization of our bus transportation service is highly recommended in order to assist with efficient school operations, minimize the impact on our community traffic patterns, and continue responsible use of the resources provided by your tax dollars.

If all ZCS families would utilize the bus service we provide, we would improve safety on our campuses at the start and end of the school day, and reduce the frequency of traffic snarls, accidents, and injury. Please consider having your child(ren) ride the school bus to school.

Background Checks

Background Checks for Visitors

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Examples include:

* Lunch Guests

* Classroom Guest Speakers

* Classroom Special Events

* Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone.

Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office. ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.

Background Checks for Volunteers

We value partnerships with our families and always welcome parents, guardians and community members to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building covers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Examples include:

• Field Trip or After Prom Chaperones

• Tutors

• Volunteer Coaches

• Classroom and Library Helpers

• Field Day and Jog-A-Thon Volunteers

• Book Fair and Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Nondisclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. All necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view mandatory videos and fill out required forms found on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.

The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.
