ZCS Students Participate in Programs to Honor Veterans

Students in every Zionsville Community School honored service men and women in Veterans Day ceremonies during the last few days. Board and community members watched a compilation of images from the patriotic events during the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night.

“Veterans Day is a time for our school family to come together and show respect for those who have served or are serving in the military. It is our school community’s responsibility to weave respect and honor for our veterans into the core mission of our schools, student growth. These programs are a foundational lesson of Civics 101,” said ZCS Superintendent Dr. Scott Robison.

Those who attended the Board meeting also enjoyed beautiful music performed by ZCHS orchestra students who were showcasing the acoustic pickup systems which had been purchased by Play on Zionsville whose mission is “Growing and administering the Zionsville Band and Orchestra Musical Instrument Endowment."

Through generous community donations this year, Play on Zionsville has provided more than $10,300 in instruments to Zionsville Community High School. Instruments included: two baritones for the band, ten orchestra “pick ups” to create a full electric orchestra and various orchestral percussion instruments.

“We are thankful for an incredibly giving community,” said Dr. Robison. “Thank you to Play on Zionsville for helping to enhance the musical opportunities for our students by providing additional instruments.”

Board member Joe Stein read an impressive list of additional contributors who are making donations that directly impact student experiences in Zionsville Community Schools. The board thanked all of the donors for investing in our schools.

Zionsville Community High School Assistant Principal Greg McDaniel introduced three new proposed academic courses for the coming school year. The approved course offerings for 2019-2020 will include Indiana Studies, Music Theory and Composition: Songwriting, and Applied Music: Modern Band.
