ZCHS students tackle environmental issues

MEET THE CLEAN TEAM!
Four Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS) students have joined forces to tackle issues facing our environment.
The independently formed high school "Clean Team" is comprised of four ZCHS student representatives: Maddie Scheitlin, Olivia Molina, Abby Wulber, and Zoe Steinberg, as well as Indiana University Graduate Student Sarah Congress who currently serves as The Town of Zionsville’s climate fellow.
In collaboration with the town of Zionsville, these ZCHS sophomore students are working on a variety of projects involving sustainability and environmentalism. The team has been doing research to learn more about the environment in an effort to best understand how to promote a clean environment in our community.
Team members consistently research different facets surrounding the environment, both inside and outside of school, in order to deepen their knowledge of the topic. This learning has created in them a passion about the environment and an eagerness to spread awareness on sustainability.
"We hope to inspire positive change in the community through different efforts such as our anti-idling initiative and sustainability tips."
Team members are currently developing a social media campaign, and information is forthcoming.
"I am always encouraged by the self-motivation of our students and their initiative to explore personal interests, develop passions and share knowledge with our community," said ZCS Superintendent Scott Robison. "The future is bright with young people like these students."
ZCS Assistant Superintendent of Academics Kris Devereaux said, "These students requested a meeting with me about their environmental project and to discuss how best to educate peers and the school community about their initiative. Our goal as a school district is to foster an environment that nurtures individual student interests and guides them on their path. It's exciting to see students grow in their interests and passions."
