Infento Kits at ZMS

Thank you to the Zionsville Education Foundation

Inspiring Future Engineers

With the use of Infento Kits, students have had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the engineering design process. This Zionsville Education Foundation (ZEF) grant awarded to ZMS teachers Emily Allen and Emily Smith gives students the ability to explore how engineering impacts their lives by creating their own life-sized transportation and to inspire more students to pursue STEM careers. Students worked in groups to build a mode of transportation that would have a minimal impact on the environment and reduce emissions.

Every fifth grade class at ZMS had the opportunity to use the kits this year. The kits are completely modular and reusable enabling them to be used for multiple designs for years to come.

After building their designs, students headed out to the ZMS track to test what they built.

Community Survey

We want to hear from you.

Community Survey

The 2022-2023 academic year is winding down, and we'd like to express appreciation for parents, guardians, extended families and friends who support and help us achieve the ZCS core mission of student growth each and every day.

To help us plan for next year and beyond, we worked with a scientific survey partner who developed an instrument to harness community feedback and school district perceptions. Now, we would like to open the survey to the entire community. Your input matters. Thank you for choosing ZCS.

Lynn Kissel-Brown shares about each of the Teachers of the Year

“Every child has important work to do in life. Every child has a contribution to make to the world. Getting to be a tiny scaffold on a child’s journey to changing to world is what inspires me.”
BME Teacher of the Year Cindi Hamlow
“The most rewarding part of teaching is watching my students find joy in learning. When I see that they are having fun at school, making positive memories and connecting learning with joy, then I know I’m having a positive impact on their lifelong educational journey.”
Eagle Elementary Teacher of the Year Katie Werner
“I have a true passion for teaching, and I enjoy creating a loving and positive learning environment full of memorable experiences for my students.  For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is knowing that I’m able to make a difference in the lives of my students in meaningful ways every single day.”
PVE Teacher of the Year Jen Hilton
“Spending my days with kids is the best and most rewarding part of being a teacher!  I absolutely love to laugh! Even on the worst of them, not a day goes by that I don’t get a chance to laugh with my students. Often, my students are laughing at me, but I feel strongly I have created a safe enough environment that we can laugh at one another too.”
SGE Teacher of the Year Angela Bourff
“I love being a teacher because I love the little ones who I get to share my classroom with. I love spending my days with my students and finding ways of making learning interactive, exciting, and fun!”
Trailside Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year Courtney Stein
“One of the most rewarding aspects of being a school counselor is the opportunity to watch student’s academic and personal development over a number of years in elementary school.  It’s truly a joy to witness their journey as they overcome challenges, discover their strengths, and develop into incredible young humans!”
Union School Counselor and Teacher of the Year Lori Karnuta
“I love my job! I enjoy getting to know my students, watching them when they “get” a difficult topic for the first time, but most importantly building those relationships and giving students confidence to be the best they can be!”
ZMS Teacher of the Year Jessica Day
“It is the passion for learning new things and seeing the value in the ongoing learning process that motivates me as a teacher.  I want my student to want to learn, want to discover, want to explore.  Whether that is trying a new sport, or activity, or learning about a new concept in school.  I want them to see the benefits of education and want it to be a part of their life in some capacity.  Being a life-long learner can take you to all kinds of places and take you to new heights and these are the experiences I want for my students.”
ZWMS Teacher of the Year Katie Evans
“It is gratifying to witness my students and players participate in many positive activities and I am always very proud of them when they graduate and carry on to beautiful new adventures.”
ZCHS Teacher of the Year Harlea Standifer

Skillman Vice President Victor Landfair presents quarterly construction update

Skillman Corporation Vice President Victor Landfair updated the board on the progress of district construction projects including Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS) additions/renovations and the new Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

Mr. Landfair reported that 90% of the ZCHS addition/renovation project is completed. He said that construction is in the final phases of a six-phase process.

Construction on the Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium is also on schedule. Eighty-five percent of the work has been completed.

The full construction report and photos of the progress can be found here.

In new business, the board revisited their previously set board salary in order to maximize the funds available for other uses as all board members had chosen to forgo their salary. A refiling of DOE school reporting designations was approved as well as a consideration of construction bids, asphalt repair maintenance and a Performing Arts Center (PAC) lighting equipment purchase.

The meeting adjourned. The next board meeting is June 12, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Educational Services Center at 900 Mulberry Street, Zionsville.
