THE FRIDAY FIVE
2024-2025
1.
Trailside
Inside the heart

At Trailside, fourth graders have been diving deep into the fascinating world of the heart - a pig heart. These young scholars have acquired a wealth of knowledge and had the incredible opportunity to dissect a real heart. This hands-on experience was made possible through the dedication of their teachers, as well as the collaboration between their STEM and literacy coaches. Union Elementary principal, Erin Kay and STEM Teacher, Megan Magoni gave their fourth graders similar experiences with heart dissection, hosting Trailside to observe the process before beginning.
Through this engaging activity, students discovered how models can aid in understanding the world around us. However, they quickly realized that interacting with an actual heart is a unique experience that surpasses any model or diagram. They had the chance to observe the ventricles and atriums up close, trace the pathways of arteries and veins, and identify many important parts of the heart that they had previously only read about.
This immersive learning experience not only deepened their understanding of biology but also ignited a sense of excitement and wonder. Perhaps a few will remember this experience and use it to fuel their future plans.
2.
Stonegate
Dance Party!

Dance party on SGE Bus #79
Stonegate Elementary School Bus 79 students started their day in the school parking lot with some groovy vibes! When they arrived at school, their usual ride transformed into a dazzling disco party, thanks to their creative and spirited bus driver, Mr. Pete Howard. Complete with colorful lights, glow sticks and upbeat music, the bus was alive with energy as students danced in the aisles and showed off their best moves.
A big shoutout to Mr. Pete for turning an ordinary morning into an extraordinary memory and for making the ride to school unforgettable.
3.
ZWMS
Creativity in Science

The sixth grade science students at Zionsville West Middle School used their knowledge of the engineering design process to build bone bridges. Students practiced and reflected on skills including: taking challenges, sharing and listening to ideas, learning from mistakes, perseverance and taking risks. Through much trial and error, all students completed the challenge.
4.
PVE
Blue visits students

PVE Students have been working hard practicing our five Character Traits: Wellness, Compassion, Confidence, Determination, and Ethics! Their dedication to living these traits was celebrated with a visit from the Colt's Mascot: Blue. Congratulations PVE Students!
5.
ZCHS
Math

Math students at ZCHS studied Game Theory in their Advanced Math Topics class. At the end of the unit, students were asked to research and present on a solved game (Connect Four, Mancala, Guess Who, 9 Mens Morris, Othello, 3D Tic Tac Toe, Hare & the Hound, Chopsticks, etc. ). Each presentation explored the history, impact and possible evolution of the game and strategies of how to play “perfectly”. After presentations, students were given time to play the games and apply the strategies they learned.
