PVE Grandfriends Day Brings Generations Together

PVE first-grade students welcome very special guests into their school day.

There were extra-special visitors at Pleasant View Elementary School this week when first-grade students welcomed their grandfriends for Grandfriends Day!

Grandparents and other special adults joined students at school and had a special glimpse into the first grade school experience. The day was filled with smiles and special moments shared across generations.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students to share a little piece of their school with people who are important to them, and another reminder that some of the best school moments happen when we bring the people we love into the experience.

2.
Music Speaks a Universal Language at ZMS

ZMS orchestra students learn about music, dedication, and perseverance from an international violinist.

Zionsville Middle School orchestra students had a special opportunity this week to spend a class period with Jingzhi Zhang, a violinist competing in the 12th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

Jingzhi performed solo violin selections by Bach, Mozart, Ysaÿe and Wagner, while students asked questions and learned about the motivation, practice and dedication required to master an instrument.

She also shared a beautiful reminder with students: Her violin and her music speak a universal language, creating connections that can cross cultures and communities.

Perhaps the most important lesson extended beyond music; keep trying when things are challenging!

3.
Racing into Fall

Jog-A-Thon brings elementary school students, families, and school communities together for a favorite ZCS fall tradition.

Across ZCS, elementary students laced up their shoes and found their strides during Jog-A-Thon, a day filled with school spirit, plenty of laps and encouragement from the sidelines.

But behind every lap is something even bigger. Jog-A-Thon is the major fundraiser for our elementary school PTOs, supporting experiences and opportunities for students and schools throughout the year.

Thank you to the PTO volunteers who give countless hours, the families and community members who donate, and everyone who shows up to cheer on our students. It is a favorite fall tradition and a wonderful reminder of what happens when a community shows up for its schools.

4.
Exploring What Comes Next at ZCHS

Students connect with more than 70 employers and explore college and career possibilities.

Zionsville Community High School juniors and seniors had the opportunity to look beyond the classroom and explore what their futures might hold during the ZCHS College and Career Fair.

More than 70 employers and professionals filled the ZCHS Fieldhouse, giving students the chance to ask questions and learn about a wide range of post graduation pathways. Presented in partnership with Junior Achievement, the experience encouraged students to explore and make connections.

The morning was an opportunity for students to begin connecting what they are learning today with where it might take them tomorrow.

Coming Together for State of the Schools

Video Highlights shown at State of the Schools

Community members and local leaders gather to hear the ZCS State of the Schools presentation.

Zionsville Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Coffman and Chief Financial Officer Regina May, SFO, shared the ZCS story with community members, local leaders, and local business owners today State of the Schools, hosted by the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Zionsville Education Foundation.

The gathering provided an opportunity to celebrate our schools, share important district updates, and created time for conversation and connection. It was an event centered on partnership and a shared investment in our community, and a reminder of something we see throughout ZCS:

Strong schools. Strong community.

Understanding School Finance

ZCS expertise helps bring a complex topic to life for communities across Indiana

There’s a new resource available to help make the sometimes-complex world of school finance a little easier to understand.

ZCS Chief Financial Officer Regina May, SFO, contributed her expertise to a statewide school finance video created in partnership with the Central Indiana Education Services Center (CIESC), Indiana School Public Relations Association (INDSPRA) and Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO).

Mrs. May joined school finance and communications professionals from across Indiana in helping develop a resource designed to explain how public schools are funded and why understanding school finance matters.

We are proud to see our CFO's knowledge and expertise contributing not only to ZCS, but to a resource that can help families and communities across the state better understand public education funding.

School finance can be complicated. Take a few minutes to watch the video and learn more.
