Kindergarten Registration
is Open

A preview for future Eagles from Eagle Elementary School’s Village Tour

Village Walk Tour...just one example of the many fun things kindergarten students experience in Zionsville Community Schools!

Kindergarten is a joyful beginning filled with curiosity, discovery, and new friendships. Earlier this year, Eagle Elementary kindergarten students took part in a special walking “Village Tour,” exploring local businesses, meeting business owners, and experiencing the feeling of community.

Kindergarten is where the journey begins, and our students create memorable moments in every elementary school from the first day they walk through our doors. Students begin building foundational skills, developing confidence, and becoming part of a school community that supports them every step of the way.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026–2027 school year is now open in Zionsville Community Schools. If you have a child who will be five years old by August 1, we encourage you to begin the registration process and join us for Kindergarten Round-Up on March 24.

If you know a family with an incoming kindergartner, please help us spread the word. We can’t wait to welcome the next class of Eagles.

Hands-On Learning and
Big Wins at Union Elementary School

Learning and celebration were both in the air at Union Elementary School this week

First graders recently wrapped up their Wit & Wisdom Module 3 unit, “Powerful Forces,” by planning and constructing their own kites. After exploring how wind and motion work together, students took their creations outside on a beautiful afternoon to see their learning take flight.

Meanwhile, students also demonstrated their academic skills during the Union Elementary School Spelling Bee for third and fourth graders. Congratulations to third grader Lauren Nettleton, who earned first place in the competition.

Moments like these highlight the confidence growing in our classrooms every day.

Exploring the Brain in
Medical Detectives

Fifth graders at Zionsville West Middle School bring neuroscience to life through hands-on discovery

This week in fifth grade, PLTW Medical Detectives students rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on sheep brain dissection, turning their classroom into a space of curiosity and scientific exploration.

During the activity, students identified major brain structures and learned how different parts of the brain contribute to everyday functions such as movement, the senses, and decision-making. As they examined the brain up close, the lesson moved beyond labeling anatomy and into deeper conversations about how the brain’s structure connects to the way it works.

Students also compared sheep and human brains, exploring key differences such as the size and role of the frontal lobe and the prominence of the olfactory bulbs.

The experience sparked thoughtful questions and lively discussion, bringing neuroscience to life while encouraging students to think like scientists and investigators.

Celebrating
Youth Art Month

Student creativity on display across ZCS and throughout the community

March is Youth Art Month, a time to celebrate the creativity, imagination, and artistic expression of our students. Throughout Zionsville Community Schools, student artwork is being showcased in our buildings and across the community, highlighting the talent and dedication of young artists at every grade level.

In this Inside the Classroom feature, you will hear directly from ZCHS student artists as they reflect on discovering creativity, trying something new, and finding an outlet through art during a busy school day. Art educator Brenda Jalaie also shares why artistic expression plays an important role in helping students grow as thinkers, creators, and communicators.

Take a few minutes to watch the video conversation and read the full story celebrating Youth Art Month in ZCS.
