ZMS
author visit

Author Laura Martin presented to grades 5 and 6 at Zionsville Middle School (ZMS) this week. Her visit was sponsored by a grant from the Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Authors Award.

After spending six years teaching the fine art of dream chasing as a teacher, Mrs. Martin is enjoying every minute of this lifelong dream of being an author. Mrs. Martin lives in the Indianapolis area and is the author of seven published middle grade books.

Her presentation focused on idea generation – both how she generates ideas and how students can generate their own ideas. She also talked about how failure can help you grow and success is often just on the other side of failure. It was an inspirational day for readers and writers at ZMS!

Held at Eagle Elementary School, the session was facilitated by Operations Director Matt Doublestein, who provided a detailed overview of the district's daily operational priorities.

During the session, Mr. Doublestein addressed key areas such as facility operations, transportation, and food services. The participants actively engaged in tabletop exercises to enhance their understanding.

Eagle Elementary Principal Andrew Foreman led members on a school tour. He shared insights into the building's unique features and highlighted aspects of the curriculum. Principal Foreman emphasized the outdoor experiences Eagle students enjoy in the sensory and community gardens.
