ZCHS Students Named Lilly Endowment Community Scholars
Two Zionsville Community High School seniors recognized for leadership, service, and preparation for what comes next
Step into the celebration
Zionsville Community High School is celebrating a milestone moment as two ZCHS seniors, Caroline Cox and Anthony Thieu, have been selected as the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars representing Boone County. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is one of Indiana’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship programs. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. These prestigious awards provide full tuition, required fees, and an annual book and equipment stipend for four years of undergraduate study at any eligible Indiana college or university, with lifelong connections through the Lilly Scholars Network.
Preparation Meets Purpose
Selected from a highly talented group of Boone County students, each of the recipients will receive a full-tuition scholarship to an Indiana college or university of their choice. For Zionsville Community Schools, the honor represents far more than academic achievement alone. It reflects years of preparation, service, and a deep commitment to making a difference beyond the classroom.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program recognizes students who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, and a proven dedication to service. At ZCHS, those are qualities students strive for each day and are amplified through our Strong in Every Way district focus. Service to community is cultivated through school programming, supportive educators, encouraging families and many opportunities for students to engage with the broader community in purposeful ways.
Both scholars have been deeply involved in service throughout their high school careers, contributing time and energy to organizations and initiatives that support the community and beyond. Their service has taken many forms, from volunteering and mentoring to leading initiatives that address real needs and create lasting impact.
Teachers and counselors describe this year's recipients as thoughtful leaders who consistently show up prepared, motivated, and ready to contribute. Whether in the classroom, on campus, or in the community, they exemplify the habits of learners who are curious, disciplined, and grounded in empathy.
“Being named a Lilly Scholar speaks volumes about these students,” said ZCHS Principal Karen McDaniel. “They are academically prepared, but also understand the value of service and leadership. They care deeply about others, and that quality shows in everything they do.”
This recognition also highlights the learning experience in Zionsville Community Schools, where students are encouraged to pursue excellence while staying connected to the people and places around them and the community supporting them. Through service learning, extracurricular involvement, and community partnerships, ZCHS students are challenged to think beyond themselves while considering how their skills and passions can be used to serve others.
As these two scholars prepare for the next chapter of their educational journeys, they carry with them the support of an entire school community that has helped shape them into confident and capable leaders. Their success is not only an accolade for ZCHS, but for the entire community that has helped them grow and appreciate the importance of giving back.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program is designed to invest in Indiana’s future by supporting students who demonstrate both promise and purpose. At Zionsville Community High School, these two seniors embody that vision, and their stories serve as a powerful reminder of what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
A special thank you to the Boone County Community Foundation for facilitating the selection process.
