Annual Finance Meeting and January Board Reorganization lead this month's board meeting
The board meeting commenced with the Annual Board of Finance Meeting. Chief Financial Officer Regina May provided the annual investment update and the required state report on ZCS's financial condition. The board confirmed alignment of Board of Finance roles with the reorganization of Board of Trustees designated roles.
In the Superintendent's Report, Dr. Rebecca Coffman shared that district teams are monitoring potential winter weather. She expressed gratitude to those involved in making school schedule calls, prioritizing staff and student safety. Dr. Coffman aims to make weather-related calls by 5:30 a.m. or at least by 6:00 a.m., with e-Learning days in the event of school cancellations.
Dr. Coffman noted that on January 8th the legislative bills were introduced. Dr. Coffman highlighted ongoing updates on FAFSA compliance in Indiana. Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS) initiated a series of work sessions for parents, with more sessions planned in February and statewide workshops in March.
Dr. Coffman acknowledged the use of the STOPit Reporting Tool over the winter break and applauded families for utilizing the tool in times of concern. Skillman Corporation Vice President Victor Landfair presented the quarterly construction update.
During the annual re-organization meeting of the board, members ratified the slate of officers. Michael Berg will serve as President, Katie Aeschliman will serve as Vice President, and Dr. Jeff Papa will serve as Secretary. The ZCS Board of Trustees officers will hold the same positions for its Board of Finance.
Director of Operations Matt Doublestein obtained board approval for a cafeteria equipment purchase, covering all kitchen units, funded from the school lunch fund. Chief Financial Officer Regina May secured board approval for the annual authorization of investments, including permission to invest with banks outside of our school boundary. Additionally, the board approved the renewal of property/casualty/liability insurance.
The next school board meeting will be held February 12, 2024 in the Educational Services Center at 900 Mulberry Street, Zionsville.
