ZCS Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rebecca Coffman invited Art Teacher Brenda Jalaie to discuss Youth Art Month. Mrs. Jalaie expressed gratitude to local businesses for their support, noting that artwork will be displayed in community locations through spring break. Mrs. Jalaie highlighted the importance of arts in nurturing children's growth, encompassing essential skills such as fine arts, motor skills, visual arts, creativity, innovation, and digital literacy. Additionally, she pointed out that art provides students with a cultural and historical perspective while serving as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety, fostering self-esteem and resilience.

During the meeting, it was reported that ZCS students completed nearly 70 service projects as part of the district’s sixth annual ZCS Do Days. Dr. Coffman expressed gratitude to all participants while particularly acknowledging Kelly Antcliff for her leadership of this event.

Dr. Coffman provided updates on upcoming events, including a college fair at Grand Park and a career fair for Zionsville Community High School juniors and seniors. Additionally, she reminded attendees  to review details regarding elementary textbook adoption in the weekly newsletters.

IMPORTANT DATES

Important dates were announced, including Kindergarten Round-Up on March 26th and the April 15th deadline for FAFSA submissions, a requirement for graduating seniors.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Director of Operations Matt Doublestein secured approval on a Farm Lease Bid for a Union Township Parcel, with one bidder offering $265 per acre per year for 25 acres on 1100 E.
  • Consideration was given to construction bids totaling $10 million, with Mr. Doublestein seeking permission to advertise projects including the replacement/relocation of the east campus chiller and upgraded sports lighting at the 875 campus.
  • Director of Human Resources Robyn Nelson presented the 2024/2025 Certified Staffing Recommendation, proposing four full-time equivalent (FTE) positions to maintain small class sizes.
  • Director of Student Services Maggie Ioannacci sought permission to advertise a request for proposals regarding student mental health supports.
  • Safety Director Chad Smith requested consideration of the Boone County Multi-Hazard Plan.
  • The first reading of student handbooks was conducted, with gratitude extended to parents, teachers, students, and building administrators for their contributions.
  • The board moved to approve the examiner's decision #400017677.

The next board meeting will be held on April 15 at 6 p.m. in the Educational Services Center (ESC) Board Room.
