2024 Budget Hearing Presentation

Dr. Rebecca Coffman recognized Eagle Elementary School Teacher Alyssa Jackson for being named the 2023 INSHAPE Elementary Teacher of the Year.
The Indiana Society for Health and Physical Educators ( INSHAPE) recently announced three 2023 Teacher of the Year award winners to recognize individuals who are among the elite of the school health education and physical education profession. Eagle Elementary Teacher Alyssa Jackson was one of those three teachers selected this year.
Jackson is now eligible to compete for the SHAPE America Midwest District Teacher of the Year Awards which would qualify for the national awards. Congratulations, Alyssa Jackson.
ZCS now has 3 INSHAPE state teacher of the year award winners.

Dr. Rebecca Coffman offered congratulations to ZCS Board Secretary Dr. Jeff Papa for receiving a Distinguished Alumni Award at Ball State University.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF UPDATE
Zionsville Middle School Principal Mitzi Macaluso and Zionsville West Principal Shawn Wooden provided an update on their recent collaborative professional development efforts within the middle schools of ZCS.
For more than a decade, ZCS has utilized E-days, providing educators with invaluable time for professional growth. In the latest E-day, more than 150 middle school educators from both schools came together to focus on standards-based reporting.
Mr. Wooden highlighted the collaborative effort of the middle schools to ensure that every student, regardless of their classroom or school, leaves with the same understanding of the instructional material.
Teachers expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate, emphasizing that this relationship between the schools benefits all students in ZCS.

FALL SPEAKER SERIES UPDATE

Chief Innovation Officer Dan Layton and Digital Coach Carly Havlik presented a one-hour session exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center this week. The presentation took a deeper look into how ZCS is approaching AI in education.
NEW BUSINESS UPDATE
During the new business portion of the meeting, Chief Innovation Officer Dan Layton was granted approval to advertise for 1:1 middle school devices.
Director of Operations Matt Doublestein obtained approval to advertise for a construction project. This project will address the replacement and installation of varsity bleachers that were initially constructed in 1998. Additionally, he gained approval for a new HVAC service agreement.
The next school board meeting will be held on October 23rd at
6 p.m. in the Zionsville Community Schools' Educational Services Center, 900 Mulberry Street, Zionsville.
