Friday Five
April 11, 2025

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Five! Each week, we shine a spotlight on five standout stories from across our district to offer just a glimpse of the many great things happening in our schools. Have a story idea? Share what's happening with Janet Mann at jmann@zcs.k12.in.us. We want to celebrate stories in every corner of ZCS!

Spring means growth and preparing for transition
Our ZCS fourth graders are getting a head start on middle school by practicing with lockers during a recent visit to Zionsville Middle School. This is part of a series of experiences designed to help students feel confident and ready for the exciting move from elementary to middle school next year.

From spring transitions to center stage
As younger students prepare for new middle school beginnings, Zionsville Community High School students are continuing to embrace the season through the arts. The cast and crew of the spring play have been hard at work since February to bring the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy You Can’t Take It With You to life. This hilarious story follows the eccentric, free-spirited Sycamore family as their unconventional ways collide with the uptight, wealthy Kirbys, just as their children fall in love.
Special thank you to play director Katie Morario who has been documenting the work that goes into producing the play through photos at every stage. We can't wait to have a front row seat to this show.
Performances run April 17–19 in the Star Bank Performing Arts Center. You won’t want to miss this outstanding performance.

Let's go fly a kite
Spring breezes and bright smiles were in the air as Stonegate first graders took their learning to new heights. As part of their study on wind and powerful forces, students explored these concepts hands-on by flying kites. With tails fluttering and kites soaring, this joyful lesson brought science to life and filled the sky with color, laughter and discovery.

Collaboration in action
As we look ahead to summer, planning and preparation are in full swing, not just for students, but for school leaders too. Zionsville Community Schools recently hosted a regional meeting of area CFOs, led by our very own Chief Financial Officer Regina May, who also serves as the director of Region 8 for the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO). The meeting included valuable conversations around budgeting and innovation, including a presentation on cybersecurity by our Chief Innovation Officer Dan Layton.
