Congratulations to these eight Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS) 2023 National Merit Semifinalists!
Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) have announced names of more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

ZCHS biology students experiment with Jell-O and pineapple
ZCHS students in Dr. Leman’s 7th period Biology class experimented with Jell-O and pineapple to learn about enzymes and macromolecules. They observed enzymes acting as biologic catalysts as well as the result when the same enzymes are denatured by high heat processes. Learners are doing important work all across ZCS.

BME STEM Teacher Kara Benson wins statewide recognition
The readiness building blocks to that story about Dr. Leman's exciting Biology class began at earlier grades for all of those engaged learners. Boone Meadow Elementary (BME) STEM teacher Kara Benson was recognized this week in a national awards program for math and science teachers. She and her elementary colleagues are supplying foundational experiences in sophisticated ways every day.
Superintendent Scott Robison and BME Principal Tom Hundley joined Mrs. Benson and her husband, a Marian University biology professor, for the state level awards luncheon in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Benson will now be entered into a national award competition that includes recognition and professional development travel study at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations to BME Teacher Kara Benson!

STAR 529 Savings Seminar
Thank you to those who joined us live and virtually for the first STAR 529 College Savings Seminar. If you missed the session, please note some exciting news regarding a STAR Cosmo Savings Account.
As students move through school there are so many opportunities to embrace: sports, arts, special trips, travel abroad experiences... All of those happen in such a short amount of time throughout the school years, and STAR is partnering to encourage families to prepare for those experiences with the Save Now, Shine Later savings initiative for our school community.
If you missed it, you can watch the seminar presentation here:
