Welcome to 2023 in ZCS

We've completed a successful first week back after winter break, and we are strolling into a new calendar year that brings change in Zionsville Community Schools (ZCS). Superintendent Scott Robison is retiring at the end of this month. Successor Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Coffman will assume leadership on February 1. The final succession plans were set in motion a few months ago, so the transition will be smooth as there has been time and preparation in anticipation of the upcoming retirement. Final words will come near the end of January.
Please mark your calendars to stop by a reception in honor of Dr. Scott Robison on January 26th from 4-6 p.m. with a special presentation at 5 p.m. Details below.

New cafe at ZCHS
The new cafeteria at Zionsville Community High School is finished, aside from a few final cosmetic details, and is a beautiful, functional space operating efficiently.
We are moving close to 800 students through lines in just over 10 minutes. All students eat in the new cafe that is designed not only as a place to eat but as a space that encourages students to relax and visit with peers during their lunch time.

CPR / AED Training
Superintendent Scott Robison and Aquatics Manager Lisa Brown talk CPR / AED Certification. QR code to register for training at end of video.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest has been on the minds of many as we have all watched the news surrounding the NFL player who suffered a cardiac emergency on the field. We join the nation in hoping for a full recovery.
The spotlight is on the importance of being trained and certified in CPR/AED. Being equipped to administer life saving measures in those critical moments following a cardiac emergency is a matter of life and death.
In Zionsville Community Schools, as required by the state, all teachers, administrators and food service staff are certified in CPR/AED. The district has AED machines strategically placed in all buildings and in spaces that are easily accessible for quick use. Staff know where the machines are located and have completed the necessary training.
As a parent or community member, if not already, you too can be certified in CPR/AED right here on the ZCS campus.
The certification course is offered through our Eagle Recreation program and is open to anyone over age 11.
Teachers, community members, and many across the state take advantage of the course offered at Zionsville Community Schools.
Learn more about the course here:
The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED blended learning course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA, workplace or other regulatory requirements. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile, desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the Instructor-led skills session. Upon successful completion, a valid two-year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED is issued.

Save Now, Shine Later
Zionsville Community Schools recently partnered with STAR Bank to allow parents of young students to save money for the many wonderful out-of-class opportunities of our K-12 schools that augment learning experiences of our community’s youth.
STAR is helping ZCS and Eagle Recreation and Enrichment with a matching incentive for accounts that sock away your deposits little-by-little for important opportunities like travel study in middle and high school as well as national robotics championships, club events, show choir fees, and so much more that can come about as you discover your student's interests.
A STAR Bank COSMO Savings “Save now, shine later” account can be a convenient place to get prepared for K-12 opportunities while your children are young such that the completely portable funds can be used as suits these needs later.
Contact our ZCHS branch of STAR Bank for more information here.
