The Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS) Senior Awards ceremony was held Tuesday, May 18. This year, nearly $400,000 in scholarship and award money was presented to ZCHS seniors from local and individual foundations, many based in Boone County or neighboring communities. When combined with scholarships awarded by individual colleges and universities, members of the ZCHS Graduating Class of 2021 will receive more than $5 million in scholarship money.
The following awards were presented this year:
- Elizabeth Shepard received the Outstanding Senior Artist Award.
- Dveena Singh (Senior Language Arts) and Kacey Craney (AP Language and Composition) were recognized with the The Miss Roby Spirit of the Humanities Award.
- Gillian Louiso and Sophie Shank were named Outstanding Senior Business Students of the year.
- Hayden Corbin and Catherine McLaughlin were the Top Computer Science Students of 2021.
- Leo Badalow was recognized for Engineering student of the year.
The ZCHS Math Department recognized the following students:
- Alaina Carr, Top College Credit Calculus Student
- Madison Whitlock, Top AP Calculus BC Student
- Ryan Carr, Top Probability and Stats Student
- Charles Wagner, Top AP Statistics Student
- Corey Woodruff, Top Finite Math Student
Viet Nguyen was recognized for his multi-lingual proficiency.
The following Boys Scouts were awarded $250 from their respective troops for reaching Eagle Scout level, the highest level you can attain in Scouts.
- Troop 69 recognized Ryan Rude, Andrew Dollins, and Hayden Neumann.
- Troup 358 recognized Michael Bricker, William Busse, and Jack Keller.
- Girls BSA Troop 219 awarded its first ever Eagle Scout to Megan Harrison.The Zionsville Service Unit Gold Award Scholarship $250 scholarship recipients are Ruth Cronin, Sophia Quick, Karina Enerson, Anne Busse, and Elizabeth Busse.
Jack Schrepferman received the Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees Scholarship. This $1,000 award is based on academic achievement, activities, and an application essays.
Karina Enerson was awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship through The Zionsville Educators’ Association. The scholarship recognizes a student who exemplifies the qualities of integrity, commitment to others, leadership, and community and civic involvement.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizenship Award, $50 for showing the qualities of patriotism, leadership dependability, and community service, was presented to Aaliyah Johnson.
Ana Kurek and Naomi Michael each received a Boone County 4-H Booster Club Scholarship in the amount of $500. To qualify for this scholarship candidates are evaluated on their academic record, career goals, leadership and citizenship qualities, as well as overall involvement in 4-H, school, and community programs.
The Zionsville chapter of Tri Kappa awards scholarships to graduating seniors who will be enrolling full-time at a college or university. The $1,000 scholarship recipients this year are Jack Schrepferman, Katherine Dimmett, and Ruth Cronin.
Madeline Mulholland received a $750 scholarship from the Boone County Cancer Society. Boone County Cancer Society is a not-for-profit volunteer organization serving the needs of Cancer Patients in Boone County.
Austin Keith received the Zionsville Alumni Association Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship is a one-time award that recognizes a student who has demonstrated an active interest and excelled in leadership, community service, academics, and occupational pursuits.
Amelia Winkleman received the Animal Science – Small and Companion Animal Accomplishment Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Andrew Paul and Carlin Barksdale each received $500 for the Chuck Keraga and Judy Veatch Memorial Scholarships, respectively. The scholarships were established by Zionsville Little League in memory of both Judy Veatch and Chuck Keraga.
Katherine Dimmett received a $1,000 scholarship from the Rotary Club of Zionsville. This scholarship is for graduating seniors who are in good academic standing and is based on, among other criteria, participation in school clubs, community service projects, faith-based participation, and the student's ability to live the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”.
Elizabeth Busse received a $1,000 Zionsville Optimist Club Scholarship, renewable up to four years. This scholarship was established by the organization to be awarded to a student best exhibiting the characteristics and qualities described in the Optimist Creed and who has demonstrated qualities deserving of financial assistance. To be considered, students must also participate in community service activities.
The Black Student Union (BSU) Senior Soar Scholarship honors a graduating member of the BSU who has demonstrated a commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the organization. The recipients have acted as a positive voice in our school and community, bringing members together through identity, education, and service. The recipients of this year’s $500 awards are Sylvie Morgan and Daniel Toluhi.
Carlin Barksdale, Elizabeth Busse and Zachary Goebel were each awarded a one-time $1,000 Justin David Langford Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the Langford family to honor Justin by choosing seniors who are well-rounded, passionate about life, and interested in a STEM related career. Justin graduated from ZCHS in 2009 and from Vanderbilt in 2013 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. Justin enjoyed learning, reading, computers, singing, playing the piano & guitar, cooking, and fitness. His life was cut tragically short, but in his 23 years he lived his life to the fullest.
Each year, the ZCHS Key Club hosts Blood Drives to help increase the state's blood supply. In turn, Versiti Blood Center provides a scholarship for one member of Key Club. This year, the Key Club and Kiwanis Club have also contributed funds for this scholarship. This award is gifted to one of the Key Club Seniors who exemplifies the principles of Key Club and works to help the school community, the community at large, and the world around us. This year’s recipient of a $1000 scholarship is Juliana Argentine.
Psi Iota Xi is a local philanthropic organization that awards a scholarship to recognize a senior who strives to develop socially, morally, and intellectually. This year’s recipient of this $1,500 scholarship is Zoe Goebel.
Paige Zvokel received a $500 Student Council Senior of the Week Scholarship. Seniors were nominated and chosen for this award by ZCHS teachers.
The Zonta Club of Lebanon Scholarship is awarded to a female high school senior who is pursuing higher education. Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipient is Catherine Rinko.
Zachary Goebel received a $500 scholarship through The Schaun Baird Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of ZCHS Graduate Schaun Baird. Baird was a talented craftsman and professional who was well liked and respected by everyone. To honor Schaun’s contributions to his company, United Group Services of Cincinnati, the craft of welding, and industry, this award is given to a student who will attend an accredited college or technical school.
Ruth Cronin received the $750 Lion’s Club Scholarship, renewable up to four years, for a total of $3,000. This scholarship is awarded based on community service, school activities, leadership, scholastic achievement, essay submission, and letters of recommendation.
This year’s recipient of the $1000 Future Teacher Award, presented by the Boone County Retired Teachers Association, is presented to Katherine Wright.
Alexis Couchman was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club of Zionsville. This one-time award is is given to a student who has a strong drive to succeed, good academic standing, and involvement in the community.
Cale Wuethrich received a Leora & Carlton Hutton Trust Scholarship in the amount of $3,000, renewable for up to 2 years. This award is given to a Boone County resident who has been accepted to a college, university, or trade school.
Sophie Shank and Katherine Dimmett received a Leora & Carlton Hutton Trust Award with a scholarship in the amount of $3,000, renewable for up to 4 years.
Emily Stucky received a Leora & Carlton Hutton Trust Scholarship in the amount of $6,000, renewable for up to 4 years.
Kyle Reasoner and Katherine Wright were awarded $500 scholarship from The Boone County High School Basketball Hall of Fame, which was created to recognize, honor, promote, and preserve the history of basketball in Boone County. Scholarship recipients plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution.
Julianna Argentine was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by The Kiwanis Club of Zionsville.This scholarship considers service-leadership when awarding money to a graduating senior.
Jacob Medvescek and Jebediah Garrett both received a $750 Zionsville Youth Football League Scholarship, presented annually to graduating seniors who have played in the Zionsville Youth Football League and played football at ZCHS.
The Zionsville Swim Club Scholarship in the amount of $1,650 is presented to Ruth Cronin for being a member of the club for at least three seasons and best represents the club’s values of self-motivation, teamwork, achievement, and responsibility.
Alexander McCarty and Sydney Aguirre each received a ZCHS Coaches Scholarship in the amount of $500. The money for these awards is donated by the coaches of the middle and high schools. The recipients were awarded the scholarship for being players who have a positive influence on their teams and who are a “pleasure to coach.”
Athletic Blankets were awarded to student-athletes must have earned at least seven varsity letters during their high school career. This distinction shows a true commitment and dedication to the ZCHS athletic program. The following students were recognized for this achievement: Logan Cole, Jesus Garcia, Shane Bates, Taylor Browne, Katherine Dimmett, and Isabella Brady.
The distinguished honor of Eagle Scholar represents students who have a cumulative 4.0 GPA or higher while also earning a varsity letter during their participation in the athletic program during the 2020-2021 school year. This year’s senior honorees include:

Neal Reilly White was recognized for earning The Army ROTC Scholarship that will pay 100% of his college tuition and fees to Tufts University, a $1,200 allowance for textbooks, and a living allowance worth more than $4,000 each school year. In total, this is worth nearly $225,000.00 in benefits.
Hudson Harreld received the Theodore Husting Morden D.P.M. Wrestling Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Sophie Shank was awarded the $1,000 Ashley C. Thompson ACTion Scholarship, established by Michael & Emily Neely in honor of their dear friend, Ashley. Ashley was a 2001 ZCHS graduate who had a beautiful spirit and zest for life that was infectious, a characteristic that sustained her during her journey with cancer.
Hannah Wleklinski and Evan Emsley each received the Brad Houser Zionsville Tennis Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship was established and is dedicated to Zionsville Tennis Coach Brad Houser, who coached both the Girls and Boys Tennis teams for more than a decade.
Jack Schrepferman received the Haines Family Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship was established by Dr. James "Jim" Haines and his wife, Julia, to honor and pay tribute to the multiple generations of Haines family members who have graduated from ZCHS over the years. Mr. Haines helped found the Zionsville Alumni Association in 2005 and has volunteered his time in serving on many local not-for-profit boards and organizations as well as to his profession of optometry.
Sylvie Morgan received the Rachael Fiege Zionsville Women’s Soccer Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $625 per year for four years. Upon the passing of Rachael Fiege, a dedicated soccer player at ZCHS, in 2013, this ZCHS soccer scholarship was renamed in her memory. This year’s recipient embodies Rachel’s spirit and personality.
Sydney Aguire received the Todd Getty Mental Attitude Award in the amount of $1,500. This award was established by friends and family of Todd Getty upon his death in 1992 when he was a junior at ZCHS. This scholarship is awarded to a student who exhibits many of the same qualities as Todd: cheerful, positive attitude, strong work ethic, good sportsmanship, an outgoing personality, and a friend to all.
Sheridan Eggers received the Andrew Baker Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship was established by the family of Andrew "Andy" Baker. Andy was a ZCHS graduate and an IU graduate who passed away at the age of 31 in July, 2010. He had a love of music and played in the jazz band, composed and sang songs and played the guitar. The recipient of this scholarship should be involved in music and should have plans to continue with their music interest in college as a major, a minor, or through extracurricular activities.
The Family Music Studio Scholarship was established by Barbara A. Walters, owner of Family Music Studio, to celebrate her 30th year of teaching violin, viola, cello and piano in a private studio setting. The recipient chosen must be dedicated to an active musical life and have a commitment to serving the community musically. The 2021 recipient of this $250 award is Katherine Dimmett.
Abigail Price and Jack Schrepferman were awarded the Ben Brimmer Memorial Arts Scholarship in the amount of $500. This award was established by friends and family of Ben and goes to a student who has worked in Zionsville and is involved in the arts or an art related computer design field.
Amelia Ridolfo received the Charles "Pete" Paddock Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Mr. Paddock was a teacher and administrator in ZCS for 38 years. This scholarship is awarded to a senior athlete at ZCHS who displays the positive spirit Mr. Paddock exemplified: strength of character, integrity, attitude, work ethic, community involvement, and sportsmanship.
This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Harold "Eugene" Wagner, a longtime supporter of the wrestling program at ZCHS. The scholarship is given to a student who has participated in a wrestling program for four years with a minimum of three years at ZCHS and who has received a varsity letter at least two years. The 2021 award is $750 and is awarded to Hudson Harreld.
Keerti Mallur received $1,000 from the Lawrence & Nellie Bailey Scholarship, established by the family of Dr. Lawrence and Nellie Bailey. Dr. Bailey was a 1922 ZCHS graduate who practiced medicine in Zionsville for 60 years. His wife, Nellie, was a Registered Nurse who practiced with her husband and was a nurse within the school corporation. The recipient must plan to pursue a career in medicine or a medical related field.
Ruth Cronin was awarded the Robert and Marjorie Stonehill Scholarship for students who want to pursue careers in the fields of English, Journalism, or Creative Arts. During her lifetime, Marjorie was able to achieve her own college experience through the help of scholarships and wanted to assist other Boone County students in a similar manner.
The Pratt Family Fund Award was established by Bing and Suzi Pratt to honor their daughters, Kara and Lisa, who were ZCHS graduates. This award goes to a senior girl who has shown the highest degree of leadership and initiative in scholarship and athletics. The recipient also must have received a varsity letter in at least two sports. The 2021 recipient of this $1,000 award is Katherine Humphries.
The Tom Bauman Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Tom Bauman, who excelled in all aspects of his life prior to his untimely death in 1986. He was a 1981 graduate of ZCHS who made a major contribution to athletics. The 2021 recipient of this $1,000 scholarship is Logan Wagner.
The Harold & Evelyn Rice Scholarship was established by Morris and Patricia Ramsey in honor of her parents, Harold and Evelyn Rice. Both were very involved in the Dover Christian Church as long-time Sunday School teachers. This award is given to a student who is active in a Boone County Christian Church. This year’s recipient of $750 is Anne Busse.
The Leah Cooper McMillan Memorial scholarship was established by Leah’s family for a ZCHS senior who has played and has a passion for softball. Leah was a 1999 graduate who had a true love of softball. She played and coached until her untimely passing in 2008. This year’s $1,000 award is being awarded to Callie Rheinheimer.
The Thomas E. Gruhl Scholarship was established by the Board of Directors of Mid State Bank in honor of the retirement of Tom Gruhl as bank president. Its purpose is to assist ZCHS students to further their education. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Logen Yaklin.
The Robert Stonehill Pre-Medical Scholarship was established by Dr. Robert and Marjorie Stonehill for students who are pursuing careers in medicine. During his lifetime, Dr. Stonehill had an opportunity to pursue his educational goals and succeed professionally because of the scholarships he received. He wants to help young people achieve similar success. This year’s $600 scholarship goes to Keerti Mallur.
Vocal Music Scholarship in Honor of Aaron & Cathy Coates and in Memory of Lindsay Van Dyke. This scholarship was established by the ZCHS Show Choir Parents' Organizations in honor of Aaron & Cathy Coates for their service and dedication to the vocal music program. When Lindsay Van Dyke, the first recipient of the scholarship, passed away in a car accident in December of 2008, the scholarship was renamed in her memory. The 2021 recipient of this $1,000 scholarship is Julianna Argentine.
The Boone County Agricultural Scholarship was established by citizens of Boone County for students who are interested in agriculture or related fields. ZCHS’s $3,000 scholarship goes to Brady Metzger.
The Thomas G. Slama Scholarship for Medical Studies was established by Dr. Thomas G. Slama, to help students who plan to study medical science and who demonstrate the qualities deserving of financial assistance. The 2021 recipient will receive a four-year renewable $1,000 scholarship. This year’s recipient is Logan Yaklin.
The Jake and John Whitney Roth Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family of John Whitney Roth III, who passed away in 2006, and was joined by his younger brother Jake Harris Roth in 2015. Both boys touched the lives of everyone they met with their smiles, hearts, and passion for bringing joy into the lives of others. One trait they shared was a desire to help others. This $1,000 renewable four-year scholarship is awarded to Isabella Brady and Margaret Haydock.
The Entrepreneurial Scholarship was established by Jeff and Benita Thomasson to honor Lloyd Taylor of Zionsville. As a student, Jeff worked for Mr. Taylor at Taylor Oil and credits him with encouragement to pursue his educational and business goals. The recipient of this scholarship should show entrepreneurial spirit and plan to major in business. The 2021 one-time award amount is $4,500 and is awarded to Abigail Price.
Zachary Gobel received The Buren Endowment Fund Scholarship of the William Higgins Trust in the amount of $1,500, which is renewable for up to four years. It was established by a bequest in 1914 of William Higgins and named after his deceased son Buren. This trust is to provide support "in aiding worthy young men in procuring such collegiate education either technical or literary." The trust was transferred to the Community Foundation in 1993 for perpetual administration as an endowed fund.
Jack Schrepferman received the Carl H. Witt Trust Scholarship in the amount of $2,000, renewable for up to four years. The Carl H. Witt Endowment was established by the Carl H. Witt Trust. Carl was a life-long resident of Boone County. He worked on a family farm for 20 years and was an active school board member. One recipient from each Boone County High School is chosen annually to receive this award with preference given to a student majoring in Agriculture or Business.
Megan Stehle received the $8,000 Oliver L. Warner Educational Scholarship. To honor his former ZCHS teacher, mentor and friend Oliver Warner, Jeff Thomasson established this scholarship fund in 2016 to help students pursuing a degree in education. Mr. Thomasson says of Mr. Warner’s mentorship, “The confidence he had in me and the many traits I observed in him made the biggest impact in my life and ultimately led me to become an entrepreneur.”
ZCHS was proud to have seven National Merit Finalists. The following students were recognized for this achievement: Lilia Arrizabalaga, Sheridan Eggers, Hanna Wleklinski, Amelia Winkelman, Morgan Browne, Megan Harrison, and Rachel Shultz.
Assistant Principal, Kristen Alderman, recognized students earning the distinction of Cum Laude, graduating in the top 15% of the Zionsville Community High School Class of 2021.
